Rubber bits are warmer in the mouth and have a different flavor which some horses prefer. They are also softer on the tongue, bars and lips making them softer in the mouth and better accepted by some softer mouthed horses. Rubber covered bits are generally thicker and may not be suitable for horses with smaller mouths.
