Aiken Historic District: After you visit us, take a leisurely stroll through the charming downtown area, filled with local shops, galleries, and restaurants.
Hitchcock Woods: This 2,100-acre urban forest is managed by the Hitchcock Wood Foundation and is perfect for riding, walking, or simply enjoying nature. It is one of the largest urban forests in the U.S. and it offers some of the best riding trails at no cost to its visitors. (Of course, donations to the Foundation are appreciated!)
Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum and Hopeland Gardens: Located in the beautiful Hopeland Gardens, take a step back in time and learn about Aiken's storied history in thoroughbred racing, a tradition that is deeply woven into the fabric of the town. Afterwards, enjoy a nice stroll through the beautiful Hopeland Gardens.
Great Oak Equine Assisted Programs: Great Oak provides equine assisted activities that promote the physical, emotional, and psychological health of individuals with disabilities and/or emotional challenges. Volunteer program available.
Aiken Equine Rescue: Established in 2006, Aiken Equine Rescue is the largest horse rescue in the southeastern United States. Open to visitors Monday-Saturday, 9-12, volunteers appreciated (no horse knowledge necessary).
Aiken Steeplechase: Established in 1930, The Aiken Steeplechase has a long and deep roots in Aiken. If you are lucky enough to be in Aiken during the spring or fall running, the locals will tell you it is time well spent!
Aiken Area Show Venues: Aiken is unique to offer a huge number of show/schooling venues, all less than an hour’s drive from downtown.
