The Thinline Flexible Muzzle is a slow feeder horse muzzle that is unlike the typical heavy, hard, and "cage-like" apparatus. The muzzle is designed to be softer, lighter and less confining. Constructed of a pliable material that reduces the chances of the muzzle getting snagged, it is also soft on equine teeth and lips. Hole Sizes:

3.5 cm + Full Time Grazing in Muzzle - Recommended hole size 3.5 or enlarge to 4 cm: For full time grazing, it is recommended the hole be 3.5 to 4 cm wide. It is very important you increase the size of the standard hole if your horse will be wearing his muzzle the majority of the time as the 2.5 cm hole is too restrictive for horse to get minimum amount of food intake.

2.5 cm+ Highly Restricted Grazing in Muzzle - Recommended for insulin resistant horses prone to laminitis: Horses with laminitis, insulin resistance or those on lush fields need careful management and a 3 cm or greater grazing hole is too large to effectively protect them, so the muzzle comes standard with a 2.5 cm size hole. Your horse should not wear the muzzle with this size hole 24/7. The horse should be brought into a stall or dry lot and fed some portion of his diet as hay that has been tested to be safe for your insulin resistant horse.

Breakaway Halter Designed for Muzzle: We highly recommend you buy the specialized halter for this muzzle. The zip tie connections can rub some sensitive horses. The unique design of the halter has slots to attach the muzzle preventing rubs from the zip ties.

Comfortable but hope this one lasts longer

This seems more comfortable and ...

This seems more comfortable and breathable for my horse than the standard web/plastic type, and doesn't rub so much. However, within a year she somehow tore it completely in half in the pasture. Guessing she was itchy and stepped on it? Just bought the second one, hope it lasts longer. Also, get a brush or scouring pad because it collects dirt and debris. I clean it every time I'm at the barn. Much more cleaning needed than the standard type.

Much better than the old black ones. I think the breathing is much easier in this one. Has held up so far.

So far so good.

So far so good. Seems more flexible and comfortable than a normal muzzle. Definitely glad I bought the Thinline halter liners, worth the extra cost.

Happy rider

Simple but brilliant

Such a great product—my mare requires a grazing muzzle, and she made it very clear she hates the standard design. I tried this one per recommendation, hesitant due to price, but have been thrilled with it. Mare doesn’t mind it nearly so much—she can still reach tall grass from the side, but it does still help restrict her grass consumption. Design is deceptively simple but very customizable fit. Getting a spare in case it breaks.

Poor fit/design

Very disappointed, hard to fit, flimsy design, ordered the horse size halter, which was way too big even though I normally order that size, also the padded liners do not fit well, would not recommend this product.

Fitting tips & Instructions

With the horse’s head in the upright position do not be alarmed if it touches the lips. Keep in mind horses spend most of their time with heads at ground level. This makes more room in the muzzle.

If your horse is attempting to eat out of the sides, this generally means they are not able to get grass through the center hole. The size of the center grazing hole needs to work with other variables such as the height and thickness of the grazing grass. We provide the smallest of grazing holes with the ability to enlarge it. Just look to see if you might need to enlarge the hole.

If the problem persists, check the horse’s fit in grazing position.

a) Lower your halter and make sure your muzzle is not on the top hole, the more “leggy” the fins are the easier it is for them to try to eat out of the sides. Raise the entire muzzle up several holes. If this does not work you might need a smaller muzzle.

b) Make sure the fins between the front (or back) fin and the side (attached to the square ring) are evenly spaced. If you have the fins neighboring the center front or center rear too close to the center one the horse will be able to eat out of the sides rather than the grazing hole.

The closer you fit the muzzle to your horses’ lips the less likely it is they will step on the muzzle and tear it.

Wear at the grazing hole: Some horses use this muzzle for years without wear, some wear the grazing hole in a few months. It will depend on how aggressive your horse is with its teeth. One of the great features of this muzzle is that it does not damage teeth. If we make the muzzle more durable we will lose that. If you experience some wear at the grazing hole just keep an eye on it. When the hole becomes too large, over about 4-5 cm, you will need to purchase a new muzzle.
